Sample Collingwood Projects
The UK Lift Company Limited
The firm was an MBO and had grown from £3m to £10m turnover pa over eight years. It manufactured and serviced goods lifts and also sold a range of factored lift products. The problem was that profits had remained at or just above break even since the MBO.
Collingwood’s contribution was to re-organise duties and responsibilities throughout the company, introducing new procedures, changing the organisational structure, adjusting commercial strategy and introducing basic planning.
Result: The firm went from break even to £750k pa profit. Later it resumed its high growth strategy and was ultimately sold to KONE.
Checkout Computer Systems Limited
The company operated in the hospitality systems market and had grown from zero to £13m turnover in eleven years. Notwithstanding a full order book, significant investment in stock and more than adequate operations resources, the firm never shipped over £13m in a year. My contribution was to implement shop floor systems including just in time.
Result: The Company immediately grew to £20m turnover with no additional investment in resources.
Mitsumi UK Limited
The company was a £11m pa electronic components manufacturer and part of a 34 factory international group. The company had grown from zero to £11m turnover in seven years but had failed to make a profit in any year. It was one of the worst performing subsidiaries in the group.
My contribution was to implement shop floor systems including just in time, to develop a small sales order processing function, to implement planning systems and to change to organisational structure.
Result: The Company moved into significant profit and grew over the next few years to over £55m turnover.
Viglen Limited
The company was a leading PC manufacturer and had grown from zero to £54m over six years. The Company wanted to accelerate growth and profitability, to repair management information systems following a failed systems implementation, and to become more corporate with a view to selling the business
My contribution was to give the company improved financial control and added value information, both highlighting and repairing areas of sub-optimal performance and to develop logistics systems and control over stock. I also prepared the numerical side of the business plan supporting our sale to Amstrad.
Result: The firm grew from £54m to £105m turnover pa in my two years. The group was sold to Amstrad prior to my leaving.
